Eleven Women Walked. This Is the Fourth Story.
Four years ago, Wendy sat down and did something most of us spend a lifetime avoiding. She looked, honestly, at how her days were actually being spent.
The numbers were confronting. Social life: zero per cent. Recreation: seven. Business: thirty-three. Home: fifteen. Sleep: thirty-three. Binge-watching TV from the couch: twelve. It was part of Her Smile's 30-Day Online Wardrobe Revamp, and it landed at exactly the right or wrong moment, right in the middle of COVID lockdown.
Wendy had been a client of Adele's for years by then. Their sons had played rugby union together a couple of age groups apart, and over time she'd moved through nearly every corner of what Her Smile offers: the Let's Get Moving Again programs, the Spring in Your Step Ten Day Challenges, a retreat at Tuggeranong Homestead, makeup tutorials and afternoon teas, and the Unique Colour Personality experience, where she learned, to her surprise, that bright pink was never a colour she should have been wearing at all.
But it was the wardrobe revamp that changed something deeper than her closet.
Being genuinely ruthless about what stayed and what went meant confronting more than clothes. Six bags left her home that day, including the bright pink jacket she'd never once worn with confidence. What she found underneath it all was space, in the drawers, in the wardrobe, and in her own sense of what she actually wanted her life to look like.
Lockdown had taken more than her wardrobe clarity, though. Wendy used to move five or six times a week without fail. Somewhere in those long, shapeless months, the couch won more often than not. Clothes that used to fit now needed shapewear just to come close.
So she picked something hard, on purpose: to run the Mother's Day Classic alongside her son.
Working with Adele, she rebuilt her technique, her cardio fitness, and the strength and posture that would carry her through nine weeks of training without injury. When race day came, she crossed the finish line in Canberra beside her son, having shaved three and a half minutes off her five-kilometre time since that very first session.
She also discovered, somewhere in those nine weeks, that she genuinely doesn't like running.
She did it anyway.
That's the thing about Wendy's story that stays with us, it was never really about the run, or the wardrobe, or even the colour analysis. It was about a woman deciding, deliberately, that the way she'd been living wasn't the way she wanted to keep living, and doing the unglamorous, sometimes uncomfortable work of changing it, piece by piece.
Wendy's journey continues. We're honoured to keep walking it with her.
