Same woman. 58 years apart. This is what a comeback looks like.
I want to tell you something I rarely say out loud.
I was a childhood model. I danced the lead Clara in The Nutcracker for the Rhodesian National Ballet. I ran my own ballet school for 23 years. I performed in professional musical theatre as a teenager. I won Student of the Year in my beauty diploma. I had been running my own businesses since I was 17 and still at school.
And then I immigrated…
Twice.
The second time my husband and I arrived in a new country with two small children and knew no one. I had lost my identity, my support network and precious family time overnight. I had always been my own boss, and now I was working for someone else.
Every morning I woke up and put a smile on my face for my children's sake.
And I pretended everything was fine.
For ten years.
At 50 I looked in the mirror and didn't recognise the woman looking back. I was overweight, exhausted and stressed beyond words. I had given everything to everyone else and had nothing left.
Then one day I said: Enough!
I began a journey of reinvention. I searched for the right steps to rebuild myself, and when I couldn't find them, I created them.
I went on to win two silver medals for Australia in international natural bodybuilding. I got back on stage and performed Cabaret at 52 with my daughter. I became a certified personal trainer, a celebrity makeup artist travelling the globe, a skincare specialist, a style expert and the Canberra Chapter Leader of Women with Altitude.
I rebuilt my body. My skin. My style. My confidence.
I found the formula.
Now at 63 I am the strongest, most vibrant, most present version of myself I have ever been.
I don't tell you this to impress you.
I tell you this because I want you to know, I am not standing outside your experience looking in.
I have lived every part of it.
